All the leaves outside are mostly mush now. They were once verdant and green, creating a beautiful canopy in this neighborhood full of old-growth trees. Autumn is my favorite season—everything turns these brilliant gem hues of amber and ruby, then it all fades and falls away for the cold of winter. A time of waiting and rest—two things I am very, very bad at as a person, both in my spiritual life and my personal life. I do have to remind myself that seasons change, however, and there is an eternal promise that I can turn to, just like the promise of renewal that comes with every fresh spring.

When I first came to Christ in college over twenty years ago, floppy disks were totally a thing that I used on a regular basis. I took a red one, wrote these exact words on the label in Sharpie permanent black ink, and used duct tape to stick it to my faded green military surplus shoulder bag.

The last month of the year is here and while I feel as though it's gone by slow, then quick, then with lightning speed, I'm ready for a fresh start again. 2022 was a year of so much rejection for me: turned down by so many jobs I applied to, so many jobs I would've loved to be a part of. In retrospect, however, God knew what He was doing, and it was I who wasn't paying attention. I was more than qualified for all of them, and His timing is perfect. I did grow weary of well-meaning friends repeating the consolation phrase, "God just has something better prepared for you." because it felt like salt in the wounds, but looking back? Yeah. Here I am freelancing, which is something I've wanted to do my whole career, and while I hate self-employment taxes, I've made it a whole year. I'm learning new things (teaching myself Javascript, Webflow, and possibly beginning to study to become a doula in 2023), I'm spending time with my kids homeschooling, and ... and I complained about it? No. It's time to shove that dissatisfaction away and recognize the good things that this year has brought me. The good things that will come of 2023 if I'm willing to see them, praise God for them, and work better (not harder).

I've been thinking about coming up with a solid color scheme for myself, so I gathered up some of my favorite colors into a little palette to consider what I'd do with 'em all. Not sure yet, but I'm ruminating. That golden yellow? Absolute fave.
